Item Details
An original antique Hudson River Valley oil painting on canvas. The painting depicts four sailboats floating on a flat body of water surrounded by shadowy rolling hills and groves of leafy trees. The painting is unsigned. It is presented in an ornate antique wooden frame with tiers of cast foliate embellishments and gold-tone finish. A hanging wire is attached to the piece’s verso. Condition
- to poor. Very significant craquelure and accretion across painting. Canvas has been restretched, revealing significant scratching and loss to edges from previous framing. Canvas is not stretched properly, leaving it warped. Cracking across frame. Blacklight reveals that the fence, silhouetted branches to left edge, centermost sailboat, and birds in sky have been inpainted.
