Karastan Colonial Williamsburg "Turkish Church" Persian Style Rug

A large machine woven area rug by Karastan for Colonial Williamsburg. It is pattern number 553, Turkish Church. The design is based on an 18th century West Anatolian rug. It features a double-arched madder red lozenge with filler motifs against a brilliant ocean blue field with matching red motifs and florets. Surrounding the field is a light beige border with turtle motifs inside cartouches. The main border is flanked by dog tooth styled guard borders. One is in brown and red, while the outermost border is in red, brown, and blue. Also included is a brass ornament from the George Wythe House. It has an applied fringe to either end, and is tagged to the reverse.
