A vibrant hand-tufted Chinese area rug. The 100% wool pile area rug features a vivid scarlet red field with a floral medallion to the center in ecru shades, with peach, fuchsia and vermillon red with shades of green. Scattered on the field are Bird of Paradise flowers, decorative vases with floral sprays, butterflies and open flower blossoms in the same colors, having mocha brown accents. It has a pale peach to ivory border with a fret key and floral crest motif. The primary border has a deep black field with a large, repeating pattern of floral sprays in harmonious colors. It has been carved along the design lines for a dimensional appearance. The rug has bound seams to the underside with a full backing, and a plaited cotton fringe to either end. Tagged to reverse, ‘Hand Made in the People’s Republic of China RN 30607’ with a maker’s name (Chen Chu) written in pen.
