19th Century Jezail or "Camel Gun" Antique Rifle
Item Details
A circa early to mid-19th century antique jezail or ‘camel gun’, a type of rifle popular throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia in the 1800s. It has a notably long barrel (49.5’) with brass banding, which is not rifled. The gun is a muzzle loader and includes its original ramrod. It has a flintlock action, with engraved marks to one side: the manufacturer name ‘TOWER’ and a crown mark, indicating that the weapon was property of the British crown, presumably issued to British or colonial troops in India, Afghanistan or the Middle East. It has a curved stock flaring to a triangular butt, allowing the rifle to be held in an armpit while riding a camel or horse. This firearm is not in firing condition and is being sold as a historical collectible item, not a functional firearm.
Condition
- cosmetic wear and discoloration to wood and metal consistent with age, cracks to butt stock, not in firing condition.
