Benjamin Miller Signed Expressionist Woodcut "The City"
Item Details
An original woodcut on Japanese paper with deckled edges by well-listed American Expressionist Benjamin Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio; 1877 – 1964), titled The City, created in 1928. The image depicts a sea of humans dressed for a night out, most everyone obliviously involved in their own selves, as several ominous figures watch the central figure in the foreground, a poorly dressed man who stands alone and vulnerable with eyes closed and hands open by his sides, a look of hopeful despair on his face, and a halo encircling his head. Title and artist signature are signed in pencil to lower margin. This piece is unframed, supported by a sheet of card stock, housed in a clear acetate sleeve. Additional information about the artist is included with this piece.
