Antique Montgomery Ward Sattley "Hit-or-Miss" Engine

Item Details

A large antique Montgomery Ward Sattley ‘hit-or-miss’ engine. The 1 HP 4-stroke internal combustion engine dates from the late 19th or early 20th century; the name ‘hit-or-miss’ refers to the speed control of the engine. The engine retains its original brass label affixed to the side, which is marked ‘Sattley – Montgomery Ward Co. – Chicago-Kansas’ and is also marked with the horsepower and speed along the bottom of the data plate. Worn and difficult to read, it appears to read ‘1 HP-K5’.
