John J. Audubon Hand Colored Aquatint With Engraving

A hand-colored aquatint with engraving on Whatman paper titled White-headed Eagle Plate XXXI, No. 7 from the ‘Birds of America’ series (1827–-1838), drawn from nature and published by John J. Audubon (1785-1851) and engraved, printed, and colored by R. Havell. The print depicts an eagle standing with a stone below one claw and a catfish below the other. The publishing information is printed to the lower left and right and the title is print to the lower center. There is a watermark ‘J. Whatman 1833’ to the lower right. Presented behind glass in a gilt frame with a hanging wire to the verso.

- small taped tears to the upper right.
