A Bruce Johnson carved wood sculpture. Titled Duet, this floor standing carved cherry sculpture features a one piece construction that evolves from two separate ribbon forms at the base into one form as it progresses upward. Mounted on rotating pedestal base. Finished with a clear satin polyurethane.
Bruce Johnson took up carving as a hobby, initially working on bas-reliefs. In 1978 he studied briefly with a noted Baltimore sculptor, who introduced him to the direct carving of three-dimensional abstract forms in wood. He has shown his sculptures in various art shows in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia and has received a number of commissions. In 1985 he retired from a career with the Federal Government to devote more time to his carving.
