1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite
Item Details
A 1960 Austin-Healey Bugeye Sprite, originally purchased by the seller in 1972 and has been in storage since 2003. It is described as a project car with a solid body and minor rust issues. It is powered by a 948cc engine fitted with larger carburetors from a Mk2 Sprite. It does not currently run, but did at the time it was garaged. The mechanicals and major systems will need to be gone through in order to get this Sprite back on the road. The car is offered with many spares and a clean Indiana title.
This Sprite had been repainted in non-original yellow before the seller purchased it; when it left the factory, it was a white car with a red interior. The body is straight and free of any major dents or dings. The inner and outer rocker panels have been replaced, but rust repair is needed in the rear wheel arches and in a couple of areas on the front bonnet. The floor pans are solid and rust-free.
Original seats are present, but will need to be reupholstered and fitted with new cushions. A factory-correct steering wheel remains in place, and a hole for an aftermarket radio exists on the passenger side of the dashboard. All gauges remain in place with the odometer showing 48,404 miles, through true mileage is unknown.
New tires were purchased in 2015, and mounted on freshly powder-coated factory rims. A new battery was installed in 2016. The original wiring harness has been replaced, as have the front lever-action shock absorbers. A bolt-on modification allows the use of spin-on oil filters.
Many spare parts and restoration items are included in the sale, including two extra wheels, a jack and lug wrench, the original air cleaners, an exhaust manifold, gauges, an original workshop manual, and more. A clutch alignment tool and a carburetor synchronizer are also included.
This car has been sitting for more than a decade and its new owner should expect all major systems to need servicing and/or rebuilding. It appears to be a good project car with a clean body, and solid structure.
