Antique French Bardou & Sons Brass Telescope with Wooden Tripod

An antique French Bardou & Sons brass refracting telescope with a wood tripod, circa late 19th century. Comes with two brass lenses: the bigger lens measuring 3’ wide x 29’ long is marked f = 20, 9 mm and the smaller lens measuring 1.5’ wide x 7’ long is marked f = 9 mm. The viewing end of the telescope is marked ‘Bardou & Sons Paris’ with a ‘GB’ trademark. The lenses come in the original wood case with dovetail joints and simple metal latches. The original oak wood tripod is collapsible and measures approximately 63’ tall, featuring brass hardware. During the time of their production, these telescopes were marketed for landscape scenery and basic astronomical viewing.
