A lithograph on paper of an original drawing by Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898) of a woman in a black gown. This piece depicts a woman in a long black dress adorned with garlands and bows and wearing a feathered hat and a man in a long coat and a ruff around his neck standing across the room from the woman. The original drawing is one of three from the ‘The Comedy-Ballet of Marionettes as performed by the troupe of Theatre-Impossible’ and was originally published in The Yellow Book periodical. The print is mounted under maroon matting , under glass and presented in a gold tone and black wood frame with hanging wire and framer’s decal present to verso. Beardsley is best known for his black ink drawings influenced by Japanese woodcuts all with an erotic and grotesque subject matter.
