A pair of limited edition, Thomas Blackshear’s Ebony Visions African-American family figurines. One, issue 899 of 3000, titled The Guardian, shows two young children being protected by a guardian angel, with white wings enveloping the children. The other, titled The Comforter, issue 503 of 3600, shows a beautiful woman in an off white gown, protecting four children beneath the folds of her cape. Both figurines are mounted atop red-stained bases, with markings to the verso.Thomas Blackshear is an African-American artist, many of whose paintings adorn Evangelical churches. He is also a sculptor and a designer of ornaments, often of African American themes. Blackshear designed illustrations for numerous postage stamps issued by the United States Postal Service (USPS), including four in the Black Heritage stamp series.
