Life Size Hand Carved Balinese Statue in Ebony Wood of Love Gods Rama and Sita

A Balinese hand carved sculpture in ebonized wood depicting the sinuous figures of Hindu deity Rama and Sita in very fine detailing. The life size sculpture was purchased in Bali in 2000 with notation that the artist spent over one year painstakingly carving the figures in their ornate headdress and garments. The figures seem to intertwine as would be appropriate concerning their roles in the Hindu epic Ramayana. The statue is signed at the back and notes from purchase also indicate the carving was done by the artist Subira in 1992 in ebony wood from an Indonesian island. After spending over six months in customs and surviving the threat to be cut in half due to unfound nefarious suspicions, the Love gods remain together and unharmed.
