Wakyosai Japanese Woodblock Print

An original Japanese woodblock print on paper by Wakyosai (Japanese, 20th century). This Japanese artist is best-known for his minimalist depictions of animals, especially horses, and this print is a beautiful example of that body of work. A horse, depicted in simple white line work against a black background, rears onto his hind legs as his body curves into a stunning arc. The artist’s seal is printed to the upper right, and a name is written in pencil just above this. The print is matted in white and presented behind glass in a thin wooden frame with black finish and a hanging wire.
