Heavy Cast Heramba Ganesha Sculpture
Item Details
A heavy cast brass or bronze Hindu sculpture depicting Heramba Ganapati, a five-headed ten-armed form of the Hindu deity Ganesha. He is depicted here with five elephant heads, four on the front and the fifth visible on the reverse. His primary right hand is held in the abhaya mudrā, the gesture which dispels fear and provides protection. He holds a radish or a bowl of sweets in his primary left hand, as well in four of his five trunks. In his other hands he holds other attributes including his broken tusk, a trishula (trident), axe, conch shell, lotus bloom, and a bow. He sits in lalitāsana upon a stylized lotus base. A rat, which typically Ganesha is depicted riding, is sitting on his right foot. The piece is unmarked.
