A Stone Money of Yap wood carving. This wood carving depicts the image of a Yapese tribe from the Micronesian Island of Yap, paying homage to a Rai Stone, also known a Stone Money of Yap. Rai stones were used as a form of currency for the Yapese people, most notable as a dowry. The verso features two papers explaining the history of the item as well as a Republic of Palau stamp with a handwritten note that reads ‘Palau became a Republic in 1995, the smallest in the World’. It has a wire for mounting.
