A 19th century Paperolle quill scroll work reliquary, neo-Gothic in form, likely Italian. This exquisite and magnificent piece features a central medallion highlighting the word ‘Ste. Pretexta.’ The intricate and delicate paper scrolls are displayed on a pink background and take on the forms of hearts, foliate sprigs and triple layered triangle trim motif. The piece is set in a 14kt yellow gold plate on brass, cathedral style, frame flanked by two guardian Angels and topped with the image of a cross. Paperolle Quill scrolling, dates towards 1870 and was known as a Monastery work. Opening the back of the piece offers a glimpse of an original red wax seal with red ribbon tabs above and below the wax seal.
