A hardcover set of Elsie Dinsmore books by Martha Finley, published by Dodd, Mead & Company, New York, 1890s- 1900s. This set includes volumes 1- 27 of the 28 volume series. It follows Elsie, a pious young lady at odds with her ‘worldly’ father and family. Each volume is inscribed on the fly page ‘To Lillian From Grandpa’ and dated.

Finley (1828-1909) often wrote under the pen name Martha Farquharson, and her ‘Elsie’ series (1867-1905) was written for children; it has been historically criticized for its overly didactic writing.
