Rembrandt van Rijn Final State Restrike Etching "The Card Player"
Item Details
A mid-20th century restrike of an original etching by extremely prolific Dutch Master artist Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 – 1669), titled The Card Player, originally created in 1641. This restrike was created from the plate’s final state, arguably either the second or fourth state according to various art historians. This etching is printed in Ingres d’Arches off-white laid paper and was printed by Park West Gallery employee Marjorie Van Dyke in an edition of 2500 prints referred to as the Millenium edition. The print depicts a Dutch man playing cards, as he stares pensively down towards his hand. The print is signed and dated in-plate to the center left margin. The print is double-matted in white and presented behind acrylic glass in a wide wooden frame with cast surface embellishments and metallic finish. A hanging wire is attached to the verso. A folder attached to the verso holds a Certificate of Authenticity from Park West Gallery in Michigan, along with a 3-page appraisal of the piece.
