Vintage Electreat 'Quack-Medicine' Device
Item Details
A vintage Electreat ‘quack-medicine’ device. The battery-powered device dates to the 1920s, and features a chromed steel body with a roller attachment at one end, and an extension cord attached to a ‘sponge applicator’. The device comes with the original illustrated instruction sheet, listing the ways in which the device can be used. The Electreat devise, invented in 1919 by Charles Willie Kent, claimed to cure a variety of ills, including muscle aches, ‘nervousness’, dandruff, constipation, poor circulation, asthma, rheumatism, tired feet, and weak heart, and also claimed to promote ‘luxuriant’ hair growth. The Electreat device operated on a single cell standard “D” battery. One of the original batteries is included.
