Van Briggle Vase and Ash Receiver
Item Details
A pairing of Van Briggle pottery pieces in the popular matte blue glaze. There is a vase with distinctive matte blue glaze and seedling leaves opening towards the mouth. The base is incised with ‘AA’ logo and ‘Van Briggle, Colo. Spgs’. The second piece is an ash receiver in similar glaze with four grooved, slotted ends. The base is incised with ‘AA’ logo, ‘Van Briggle Colo Spgs’ and marked ‘48’, possibly to designate the batch number. Van Briggle Art Pottery was established in 1901 and became well-known for its Art Noveau-influenced pieces. Before founding Van Briggle, Artus Van Briggle worked for the reputable Rookwood Pottery company in Ohio. The company produced art pottery until closing in 2012.
