A 1940s World War II poster. The poster depicts a U.S. battleship going down in flames in the distance, as a frightened sailor swims toward the foreground, right hand extended out of the water towards the viewer. The top of the poster reads ‘A Slip of the Lip Can Sink a Ship’, and the bottom reads ’Don’t Discuss Troop Movements, Ship Sailings, War Equipment’. The poster is printed on paper, with printing information to the bottom right border reading ‘Endo Laboratories, Inc., Subsidiary of E.I. du Pont’ along with the DuPont company logo. The title of this piece A Slip of the Lip (Can Sink a Ship) was canonized in popular song by jazz artist Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra in 1942.
