Alfredo Zalce Original Limited Edition Mixed Media Etching "Carnaval"
Item Details
An original 1979 etching with areas of mezzotint and deep etching by well-listed Mexican muralist and printmaker Alfred Zalce (1908 – 2003), titled Carnaval. The print depicts two Art Brut-style creatures; one is a two-legged horned mammal, and the other is a cross between the Grim Reaper and a skeleton. The skeleton raises a scythe towards the towering animal. The piece is printed in expressive tones of black, white, and red. The piece is signed, titled, dated, and numbered 17/60 in pencil to the lower margin. It is presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation. Zalce was a friend and contemporary of the great mid-century Mexican muralists, including Diego Rivera. More information about his prolific career can be found under Additional Information.
