Sterling Silver and Coin Silver Flatware
Item Details
A collection of silver flatware. This group includes a small sterling serving spoon, with a pierced scrollwork bowl, and a dinner knife by the Gorham Manufacturing Company (established 1865, Providence RI). These are in the Strasbourg pattern, designed by William C. Codman in 1897, and feature a palmette-tipped handle and a border of double scrolls. Also in this lot is a small coin silver salt spoon, with a scalloped bowl, rounded shoulders, a twist stem, and an exaggerated fiddle handle spoon, with a delicate incised surface design. It is monogrammed ‘JEM’ and stamped ‘W (illegible) Freeman’, mostly likely for silversmith William Freeman who was listed in Philadelphia in c.1839-40. The approximate weight of the sterling spoon is approximately 0.68 ozt, and approximate weight of coin silver spoon is 0.224 ozt. The knife was not weighed due to stainless blade.
