A handblown green Japanese fishing float with long stitch netting. A Japanese green glass fishing float in a net. Historically, these glass fishing floats have been used since 1840 to keep long lines of fishing nets afloat. The practice started in Norway and spread worldwide, the country using them most from 1910 up until modern days has been Japan. Green glass was the most common color used by the Japanese. The float comes in a traditionally knotted net.
