A vibrant, contemporary handwoven Turkmen Andkhoy Ersari area rug. The rug has a vibrant red-orange field with a mirrored indigo star gul to either side, framed in a panel bordered in crisp stemmed carnations, rendered in ruby and garnet. The field is framed by a red and ivory checked barber pole border, with a wide principal border having an inverted mihrab pattern, alternately with a large stemmed carnation. Arrow and floral motifs fill the niches, in complementary colors on an indigo field. The outermost border, in black, features repeating ‘s’ hooks. It has a double overcast seam in deep mocha brown. The rug has a wide kilim skirt with a diagonal pattern in the weft colors, and an undyed, knotted wool fringe to either end. Unmarked.
