Chinese Lacquer Cabinet

Item Details

A black lacquer Chinese cabinet with double doors to the front and a single shelf inside. The chest is made of wood with a thin black lacquer finish. There are fine line borders, peonies, and birds which are embossed in the applied finish and hand-decorated in pastel pink, blue, and green. An inscription on the right door reads 春色怡人 (chunse yi ren) meaning “Pleasant Spring Colors.” The doors have brass hinged pulls and loops for a decorative lock which is not present.

Condition

- there are some small areas where the coating to the wood is missing and others where it is cracked. Damage to doors. Missing lock to front.
