Garin (1922-1994) was one of the most successful and influential seascape artists of the 20th century, and particularly noted for his ability to portray the translucency of the waves. This depiction is of breaking waves, with the central crested wave highlighted by a breakthrough of light through the storm clouds. It is presented in a wooden frame, painted green and gold, wired for hanging.
