Peter Max Acrylic-Accented Offset Lithograph "American 500: Palm Tree"
Item Details
An original offset lithograph with hand-painted acrylic details on paper by well-listed and renowned German-American Pop artist Peter Max (1937 -), titled American 500: Palm Tree. This piece depicts a printed textured offset lithograph background with handpainted palm trees and playful abstracted forms cutting across the foreground. The painting is signed in paint to the lower left. It is double-matted in white linen with a gold tone filet and is presented behind acrylic glass in a wide wooden frame with gold tone finish. A Certificate of Authenticity from Park West Gallery is attached to the verso of the piece, along with a wire for hanging. Max received his formal art education in the 1950s at the Art Students League of New York in Manhattan, where he studied anatomy, figure drawing and composition under the tutelage of Frank J. Reilly. Max began his career in illustration and graphic arts by creating collage-based works using elements taken from antique photographs. His interest in astronomy led to his self-described “Cosmic ’60s” period, where his art became a symbol of the counter-culture with its flamboyant use of bright rainbow colors and psychedelic images. Max works in multiple forms of media including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, sculpture, video and digital imagery. American icons such as Bill Clinton, Taylor Swift, and Mohammed Ali appear in his works, along with other elements such as the Statue Of Liberty, peace signs, butterflies, and flying saucers.
