An incredible original oil on canvas painting by Jan Roderick Carroll (b. 1926) entitled ‘The 2 Marlenes.’ The image was painted circa 1977 and is painted on a Chenille vintage bedspread, stretched around a frame of repurposed wood. The artist has rendered an apparently double portrait of Marlene Dietrich. The famous film actress is seen first in a red dress standing with a sassy stance of flirtatious indifference, above the first Marlene looms an eyeless painting of the actress in a tuxedo. This painting presents a dark surrealism comparable to the aesthetics of David Lynch. The painting is signed in large red letters to the mid left hand side and comes to unframed, pefectly capable of existing on its own.
Condition
Some mild wear consistent with age.
