Vintage Handwoven Kazak Flatweave Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage handwoven Kazak flatweave area rug, likely a nomadic Yomut work. The rug features a series of five cruciform and serrated leaf medallions running the length, in a palette of bright yellow mauve, bright blue, crimson red, and orange, with red and white checked barber pole detailing, surrounded by smaller octagonal ‘c’ gul forms. It has detailed running water floral style guard borders on white in the same palette, with a wide main border having a black field with large protective ram’s horn guls in similar colors. The wool warp fringe is variegated at either end. Please see condition details.
Condition
- to poor. Heavy wear and bald spots throughout. The edges of the rug have several cuts along the warp, and it has significant wear. The rug may have been trimmed from a larger piece without restoring the foundation.
