Antique Dital Harp and Case

An antique dital harp with a wooden case. The dital harp was invented in 1798 by inventor and composer Edward Light. The instrument combined the features of a traditional harp with those of a guitar. The piece features twelve strings, and frets with a dital, or key, to press the string to the fret and change its tone. The piece is made of wood, and decorated in gold. The inventor’s name appears on the piece with ‘Foley Place London’ and ‘Patent Dital Harp, No. 13.’ The case is lined in light green velvet, and features a compartment that holds the instruments tuning pegs and key.
