Large Ruby Red Handwoven Keshan Area Rug

A large, contemporary ruby red hand-knotted Keshan wool area rug, circa late 20th century. This hand knotted rug features a central double-pendant circular medallion of gold, vibrant red, shades of blue, and ivory colored palmettes with detailed floral patterning in accent colors of nutmeg, hunter green and French rose. The medallion is set against a ruby red field populated with a repeat of the floral design and sickle and split leaves, with rich blue spandrels. The rug has a compound border of red and blue guard borders framing a navy blue floral border in harmonious colors. It has a short wool warp fringe on both ends. Tagged to reverse, ‘Made in Iran.’
