An oil landscape on academy board attributed to listed American/French artist Victor De Grailly (1804-1889). This Hudson River School landscape style painting depicts a mountainous range surrounding a small body of water, dotted with boats. Buildings can be seen at the water’s edge. A pair of women wearing long yellow shirts stand in the foreground. The back of the frame is marked, ‘original – 1861 dated-’, ‘4M’, ‘H. W. Jones’, ‘I.V6-.5471’, ‘Hempslear N.Y.’ Item is ready to hang; metal wire hardware.
Condition
- moderate abrasions which go through to the board; along lower edge.
- accretions in center left and upper left corner.
- scuffing of frame – in line with its provenance.
-evidence of inpainting to the lower margin and sky area of painting.
