Circa 1810 Federal Mahogany Longcase Clock by Ezra Batchelder

Item Details

A circa 1810 Federal style mahogany longcase clock by Ezra Batchelder. The painted metal clock face features hour, minute, and second hands, Arabic and Roman numerals, and nuts for winding the weights. It is hand-painted with delicate bird, floral and fruit patterns surrounded by hand applied gold trim, as well as the words ‘Ezra Batchelde Danvers (Massachusetts).’ It has two winding arbors at the ‘4’ and ‘7’ marks. The face is set behind a glass door and housed in a walnut body with a scrolled pediment, pilaster supports with brass trim, a lockable access door, and bracket feet. Includes a key, a winding crank, two weights, and a pendulum. Batchelder’s (1769-1858) workshop records indicate that he only made 35 to 50 clocks in his life. So this is a fairly rare piece. Clock untested.
