Russian Version of John A. Ruthven's Decoy Offset Lithograph Print

Item Details

A Russian edition of the limited edition offset lithograph print by John Ruthven titled Decoy. The size of the image is 19.75′ × 23′. In 1978, the original painting of a handsome black lab named Decoy was presented to Leonid Brezhnev, President of the Communist Party in the U.S.S.R. A series of prints was produced from the original, to be given to Politburo members and other Russian VIPs. However, when Mr. Ruthven had the title ‘Decoy’ translated into Russian, it carried the meaning of ‘Political Ensnarement’ and the prints were unable to be used. Mr. Ruthven quickly changed the title to read in English and had new prints made, which the Russians happily accepted. This is one of the rejected ‘Ensnarement’ prints. This is a special offering as the prints are not sold to the public as a rule.
