Handwoven Caucasian Area Rug

Item Details

A handwoven Caucasian area rug. It has a center field of lattice guls featuring distinct abstract shapes in multiple colors, including madder red, ivory, indigo, moss green, burnt orange, mocha brown and ochre. The rug has a complex compound border, with the principle border being a series of defined cruciform shapes in complementary colors. The compound border include several checked guard borders and a slanted sawtooth pattern with additional minute crosses. It has a natural warp fringe to either end and is unmarked.

Condition

- to fair. The fringe shows considerable wear and some fraying around the edges. Some wear to fibers throughout.
