American Classical Mirror with Reverse Painted Glass Insert, c. 1840

Item Details

An American Classical gilt gesso mirror with reverse painted glass insert, c. 1840. Features a tiered top with acorn detailing over foliate style detailing in relief below. There are a pair of engaged turned columns to each side of the mirror which are finished with foliate style detailing in relief below. The reverse painted insert features a small home against a landscape next to a body of water and features a slight decorated border in gold and silver tones. The insert is above a larger rectangular mirror and the piece is finished with an engaged turned column to the bottom.

Condition

Wear is commensurate with age and use. Some cracks and missing pieces noted in the gesso, some wear noted to the paint in the insert.
