A William Ayerst Ingram (1855-1913), after Guido Reni, Apollo and the Nine Muses, c. 1885-90, oil on canvas. Reni’s (1575-1642) original 1614 painting is in the Pallavinci-Rospigliosi Collection in Rome. At the time of purchase this copy was attributed to the English painter Ingram, who was part of the Falmouth School of Artists, Cornwall, England. It features a gorgeously backlit parade of Muses with charioteer and cherub following Apollo on a pillow of clouds over an earthly landscape. It is presented without glass nor mat in a gilt over oak ornately carved frame featuring delicate floral and foliate relief gesso detailing. It includes wire to the verso for hanging.
Condition
Wear is commensurate with age and light use.
