An Alfred Elmore, R. A., (1815-1881) ‘Cephalus and Aurora, after Nicolas Poussin’, watercolor on paper. Alfred Elmore was a Royal Academician best known for his fantasy painting of historical events. This is a student work from his days at the Royal Academy during which time he made water color sketches of old master paintings in the collection of the National Gallery, London. Purchased at the Alfie’s Antique Market, Lisson Grove, London. It is signed and dated to the bottom right in pencil Alfred Elmore R.A., c. 1840. It is presented under glass without mat in a gilt carved wood and gesso frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Condition
Very little wear noted.
