Almé Leon Meyvis Original Oil on Canvas
Item Details
An original oil on canvas painting by well-listed Belgian-New York painter Almé Leon Meyvis (1877 – 1932). The painting depicts a beautiful pastoral landscape painted with thick, rough strokes in dark neutral colors. A white cow wanders through a small rural yard; a bright sunrise or sunset fills the sky behind the otherwise dark scene with swirling blues, oranges, purples, and yellows. The painting is signed to the lower right, though it is very difficult to see due to the darkness of the painting. A plaque attached to the frame’s base also gives the artist’s name. The painting is presented in a unique antique carved wooden frame with bronze tone finish and a hanging wire. As the condition states, the painting has been relined. Meyvis was a well-known member of the art group known as the Finger Lakes Regional Artists; more information about the artist can be found under Additional Information.
Condition
- light accretion and craquelure to painting’s surface. The painting has been relined for preservation.
