Robert Oliver Skemp Nautical Oil Painting "Clipper Race"

Item Details

An original oil on board painting by very well-listed American artist and illustrator Robert Oliver Skemp (Connecticut, 1910 – 1984), titled to the verso Clipper Race, circa 1940. The painting is signed in paint by the artist to the lower right, mounted behind linen liner in a beveled wood frame with beaded interior trim and distressed gilt finish. To the verso, artist name, title, and ship names Seawitch and Typhoon are handwritten in black marker. A hanging wire is attached to the verso.

Condition

- accretion on painting surface, mat and frame. Finish of frame is worn with chips and abrasions.
