Unique and Unusual Silk Tabatabai Area Rug
Item Details
An unusual and unique hand woven silk Tabatabai Tabriz area rug. The carpet has a crisp, ornate mirrored pattern of two cartouches with images of village life: structures, peacocks, oxen, dogs, and ducks on a pond. Each cartouche has a crenellated border with large floral palmette accents. The central medallion is a large twelve-lobed flower filled with open blossoms and foliate patterns. Surrounding the key design elements is a field of hyacinth clusters with split leaves, rounded boteh and large palmettes. The carpet has an overall color palette of pale sage green with mocha, garnet, ruby, deep indigo, vermillion, ivory and shades of darker green. The wide, Rhodian-style ‘broken’ border has arabesqued vinework and large blossoms and palmettes, flanked by ivory guard borders with a running carnation and stripe border. It has a warp fringe to either and and is unmarked.
