Signed Ben Owen Edo Vase and Art Pottery
Item Details
A selection of three hand thrown, functional art pottery vases. The rounded, ovoid vase is by Master Potter Ben Owen, III, who makes his home and art in the prolific Seagrove, North Carolina ‘pottery belt.’ His porcelain Edo vase has a soft form with a rounded rim and incised decoration, and features a graduated ivory to eggshell and taupe natural ash matte glaze. It is signed to the base ‘Ben OWen III, 2010.’ Also included is a lovely functional lidded pitcher with a similar mottled, taupe color, having a hand applied color band to the center and a fitted lid with hand pulled finial. It features an abstract floral decoration to the front. Signed illegibly to the base. Included with these pieces is a small rounded jar with a wide mouth, hand thrown in a manganese stoneware clay. It has been glazed in layers with colors of eggshell, taupe, ochre, pale blue and blue green, with a striking single line across the shoulder, and ivory liner glaze. Illegibly signed to the base.
