18th Century Dutch Maritime Painting
Item Details
A fabulous 18th century maritime painting on stretched canvas, the attached brass plaque to read ‘Dutch Herring Fishery with the ’Beekvliet’ man-of-war acting as the guard ship. Mid 18th century Dutch School’. Maritime painting was popular during the Dutch Republic since they relied on trade by the sea for their incredible wealth. This painting illustrates smaller fishing boats, with their nets cast out, under the watchful guard of the larger masted ship with the Dutch tri-colour prominent at the aft. The painting is strong, expressive and certainly tells the story. A spectacular antique burled Walnut frame with a molded inner gold edge houses the painting beautifully and the labeling on the back of the frame indicates the paintings to have been procured from ‘The Parker Gallery’ 2 Albemarle Street, London. This painting compliments the painting offered as # 013 which was clearly done by the same artist and framed alike.
Condition
Both the painting and the frame are in very good condition.
Dimensions
The framed piece measures 21.5" high x 26" wide, the image being 15.5″ × 20″.
