Mahogany Federal Style Dining table with Chairs

A Federal style mahogany dining set. This set is marked ‘Virginia Craftsmen Reproductions.’ This set includes a dining table with two removable leaves for extension, and six chairs. Indicative of the Federal style, the table top is simple and without decoration. At each corner the banding decoration begins and continues down the outward facade of each tapered leg. A fifth tapered leg is directly in the center to support the added weight of the table when the leaves are installed. Each of the chairs has a shield shaped back with fluted decorative elements. The seats of each chair are upholstered in a cloth fabric featuring alternating dragon and unicorn motifs. The upholstering is held in place by tacking which line the piece, and capstone each of four fluted tapered legs.
