Duck Prints by Richard Bishop
Item Details
You get ‘Bishop Times Two’ with these reproduction etchings entitled ‘Rice Field Pintails’ and ‘Lake Erie Mallards.’ With these particular options, the artist is giving you opposing views – landing and take-off. Both pieces are reproductions but still very nice. It seems the artist’s purpose was not as much about the detail as the art of nature in flight as these birds are shown in a variety of poses. It’s like viewing the process of landing and take off in slow motion. Five fowl are used in both etchings. Richard Evett Bishop was an etcher and painter of wildlife subjects, particularly ducks and geese. He also etched a number of Christmas cards which are now in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., along with four other wildlife prints.
He lived in Philadelphia where he was a member of the Philadelphia Print Club and the Philadelphia Watercolor Society. He was the author of a book titled ’Bishop’s Birds’, published in 1936 by J.B. Lippincott.

There is some waviness to the paper in Rice Field Pintails. The mats and frames for both pieces are very good.
