Joseph Baris Oil on Canvas Impressionistic Landscape

Item Details

An original late 20th century Impressionistic oil on canvas painting by artist Joseph Baris (Italy/Cincinnati, 1939- ). The image depicts a singular figure walking beneath a line of bright white flowering trees. Purple mountains loom across the horizon, and a flat body of water can be seen in the foreground. The painting is signed to the lower right in black paint. It is presented in a wooden frame with ornate scrolled cast embellishments, seamless corners, spackled texture, and gold and pickled finishes. A hanging wire is attached to the piece’s verso. Baris immigrated to Cincinnati in 1956, where he studied periodically under Roland Huston. He initially worked primarily in watercolor and later developed an affinity for oils.
