A Tony Ortega artist’s proof trio. The three artist proofs are printed on heavy, smooth paper, and are screen printed in vivid colors of red, orange, purple, green, yellow, and dark blue, depicting human figures against brilliant orange-red backgrounds. ‘La Familia Gareta’ depicts a group of four adults carrying or leading two children, with a dark red-orange background, and is signed ‘Ortega’ to the lower right. The second work, appears to be titled ‘La Mama y La Higa – II’ and depicts a woman and a girl walking, with a house in the distance, against a red-orange background, and is signed ‘Ortega 85’ to the lower right. ‘Hombres Con Porelos II’ depicts a group of five figures, with a house in the distance, and is titled at lower left, ‘AP’ in center, and ‘Ortega 85 [copyright]’ at lower right. The works are presented unframed. Anthony ‘Tony’ Ortega (American, born 1958) is a well-listed artist from Colorado, whose work includes painting, etching, drawing and printmaking. Ortega received an MFA in drawing and printmaking from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and is currently a professor of printmaking at Regis University, Denver, Colorado. He received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1999, and the Mayor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1998. He has been a member of Artnauts (an artist’s collective, established in 1998 by Dr. George Rivera, professor of art at the University of Colorado-Boulder) since 1996. Mr. Ortega’s work is in the collections of The Denver Art Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum, and Colorado Springs Fine Art Center, among others, and his work has been exhibited across the United States, Latin America and around the world.
