Item Details
An original oil painting on board by Cincinnati artist Scott Addis (b. 1963) titled ‘Under The Trees’, purchased from Closson’s (Cincinnati, Ohio) in 2000. The timeless landscape depicts a hazy, vaporous atmosphere with a low horizon line that seemingly glows behind the silhouette of an allee of trees. The tonal palette is muted and a bit haunting. The artist has signed the work in the lower right corner and the painting has been professionally finished in a gold textured concave frame.
Scott Addis was raised in rural Pennsylvania where he developed a fondness for nature while hunting and fishing with his father. After settling in Cincinnati, Ohio, Scott studied with Greg Stored whom he credits with teaching him the importance of composition. His paintings however are evident of his influence from the masters Turner and Whistler. Scott has exhibited nationally, his work has been represented locally through Closson’s Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
